Development of a knowledge-based company valuation model

Project goal:

The aim of the research is to provide a generally applicable calculation model for measuring the knowledge capital of enterprises based on publicly available data, especially annual report data. With the help of the obtained method, we compare the data of domestic enterprises and enterprises of foreign countries and examine the role of knowledge capital in corporate competitiveness. We hope that the procedure resulting from the research will become a new evaluation method of corporate performance and will also provide an opportunity for state actors to plan targeted measures that increase competitiveness more effectively.

Professional content:

The project’s predecessor was a research on knowledge capital measurement that started at the Department of Information and Knowledge Management of BME, led by György Boda. Since the first volume on the results (Dr. György Boda: The development and impact of knowledge capital on corporate management, Foundation for the Information Society, 2008), the research results have been published in numerous publications.

The aim of this project is to produce a methodology for calculating and evaluating corporate knowledge capital as a result of the research. The results of the research will also need to be measured against international data, but according to our preliminary expectations, these will be in line with our results, so the methodology developed during the project may spread in domestic and international company valuation practice (bank lending, corporate partner rating, etc.), partly placing the concept of a “”good company”” on new foundations.

Leading researchers of the project:

György Boda (Boda&Partners partner, Corvinus University associate professor emeritus)
Ferenc Kiss (Infota Research and Development Director, Chairman of the Knowledge Management Working Committee of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences)
Gábor Láncz (Vice President of the Advisory Department of the Budapest Chamber of Trade and Industry)
Regina Thék (Boda&Partners, economist).

Dissemination

On September 7, 2023, at the event of the Hungarian Economic Society entitled Productivity, Added Value, our colleague György Boda presented some preliminary results of our research, which was followed by a professional discussion. The participants of the discussion considered our work fundamentally valuable and worthy of support and made positive statements regarding the preliminary results.
