Paprika Jancsi – an Interactive Touchscreen Experience for the “Kalocsa’s Gold – Paprika” Exhibition

For the Viski Károly Museum in Kalocsa, we developed Paprika Jancsi, a large-format interactive system created for the exhibition “Kalocsa’s Gold – Paprika”. The goal of the project was to complement the exhibition’s objects, local knowledge, and stories with a digital tool that immediately engages visitors—visually striking, easy to understand, and especially well suited to families and school groups.

From a technical and software perspective, our delivery included a portrait-oriented 75” ViewSonic touchscreen installation running on Microsoft Windows, built on a scalable content-playback framework. We provided a stable, exhibition-ready solution capable of handling different types of media—interactive modules, animations, and video—through a single, consistent interface, while also allowing for straightforward future expansion with new content.

At the heart of the system is a digital reinterpretation of the Paprika Jancsi folding game. The original paper-based version is a classic “transforming” foldable: with each fold, the figure reveals a new image, eventually looping back to the starting form. We translated this simple yet enchanting mechanic into a touchscreen experience through a responsive interactive animation. The result recreates the rhythm and step-by-step nature of folding, while playfully encouraging focus, sequencing skills, and the joy of discovery.

The Paprika Jancsi installation is complemented by a dedicated video player module, enabling the exhibition’s audiovisual materials to be presented within the same unified interface in a way that fits a museum setting. Overall, the system is a future-proof, reliable interactive tool that doesn’t just present the exhibition’s topic—it makes it tangible, engaging, and hands-on.
