Digital archiving covers systematising, digital processing of databases of extremely various subjects meanwhile of very different logic and structure. It also encompasses eventual publication on an Internet portal of all materials that have been and are being continuously created at the research places.
Results of historical and geographical sciences could be included in a geospatial system (with the option of retrieving data in time series); this could be followed up by other researches. Human researches dealing mainly with textual-image-audio data or sociological researches call for different approaches. Our Digital Stone Plates program seeks an answer for the question: what are the organisational and technical solutions that could ensure for a document, map, architectural model, film, voice, etc. that has either been digitised or have already been created in digital form that it could be read/used on the mid- and long-term. In addition to general recommendations, we wish to furnish certain areas with practical methodological guidelines for the creation of their “digital stone plates”, meanwhile we could participate in the elaboration of the systems.
In the field of document management – utilising the result achieved by the Digital Stone Plate project – we participate in the elaboration of concrete and cost-efficient solutions that, at the current level of our best understanding, have the most durable architecture. Related topics are digital document bases, electronic document archiving, use of digital signature in digitalising projects and in digital document management systems.
